Spooktacular Paddle Tradition In Alameda, CA
Grab your broomsticks (or paddles!) and join us for Witches & Wizards on Water, a magical morning on the Bay. Costumes encouraged! Whether you’re a seasoned paddler or brand new to the water, enjoy a morning of magic on SUPs and kayaks in Ballena Bay, Alameda. Everyone is welcome! We are excited to be co-hosting this event with SeaTrek and Ohana Paddle Club! SUPs & Kayaks are available to rent at Sea Trek (with a reservation), or a $10 launching fee applies if you bring your own SUP or Kayak.
We’ll gather for a fun, festive morning on the water, paddling together in our best costumes and spreading spooky cheer across the shoreline.

Expect plenty of laughter, photo ops, and community spirit as we glide along on SUPs and kayaks, turning the Bay into a floating Halloween parade.

All participants must wear life jackets. We will have instructors on the water to help with group management and marina safety.

Your participation in the Witches and Wizards paddle supports the OUSD 500 On the Water Project, part of Sea Trek Cares and Oakland Goes Outdoors. Just $20 sponsors one student’s first paddle, helping them build confidence, joy, and connection outdoors.

This spooktacular event is taking place Saturday, October 25th from 9am - 11:30pm. Check-in and meet-up will be at Sea Trek in Alameda.

9:00 AM - Check-in at Sea Trek Alameda for rentals & launching
10:00 AM - All paddlers head to the Magic Circle in the lagoon
10:15 AM - Witches’ Call, the official start of the paddle
10:30 AM - Photos at the bridge
10:45 AM - Paddle to the end of the lagoon

Yes, Sea Trek offers rentals of kayaks and SUPs, and they strongly encourage participants to reserve equipment ahead of time.

If you have your own kayak or SUP, you can launch from Sea Trek’s dock with a $10 launching fee. If you don’t own gear, you can rent a kayak or SUP (and reservations are encouraged).

Yes, it’s recommended to arrive at 9am for check-in, outfitting, and gear preparation.

Clothing you don’t mind getting wet, such as quick-dry shirts, fleece layers, athletic wear, and swimsuits. Wetsuits are not provided
A towel and a change of clothes for after paddling.
Warm layers, it’s the San Francisco Bay, and it can get cold.
Drinking water to stay hydrated.
Sunscreen and a hat for sun protection.

Dress in a best costume and remember layers depending on the weather. Alameda can be sunny, breezy, or foggy. Avoid cotton; choose quick-dry fabrics. Bring extra warm layers or a dry change of clothes.

The event supports the OUSD 500 On the Water Project, a Sea Trek initiative to provide access to paddling and outdoor education for students. You can sponsor a student’s paddle for $20.
Best Paddling Camp in Alameda
Each day, (full-day and half-day options) campers head out on adventure paddles in a calm, protected lagoon, learn the basics of kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding, and dive into hands-on environmental lessons. Along the way, they’ll join team games, take on new challenges, and soak up plenty of sunshine.
Led by our friendly, experienced instructors, camp is designed to build confidence, spark curiosity, and create lasting friendships. By the end of the week, your child will come home with new skills, new friends, and stories they’ll be talking about all year long.
